How You can Help
• Spread the word! Do you know organisations or groups that would benefit from books? Tell us about them, or pass on our information to them.
• Buy a Christmas stocking. Each year we make and sell stockings from old blankets that are too worn to be warm. We decorate them with felt, ribbon and other materials with designs ranging from simple Christmas trees and Santas to gorgeous antique buttons and lace. Some stockings are based on designs of book covers, but many are original. All the proceeds from each stocking sold go to Prospero’s Project. See our gallery of stockings here.
• Help us solve our wooly problem - finding enough old blankets! We always need old, battered wool blankets that are too ragged to serve any more. We can 'felt' them (simply washing them in very hot water, to bind the wool a bit more closely) and then fashion them into the stockings we sell. We like both solid colours and patterns; the main thing is that they are 100% wool.
• Do you enjoy crafting? If you have a crafty side, you could participate in one of our stocking workshops, which also raise money. Participants get to decorate their own stockings, using felt and other materials we provide - view our schedule of upcoming events, which includes workshops, here.
• Join the shop Reader’s Club. If you enjoy reading and talking about books, why not join us and other like-minded people in the Much Ado Books Readers Club? Annual membership costs £30 for an individual and £40 for families with the subscription fee going directly to Prospero’s Project. You will be invited to Reader’s Club events and parties, and receive a 20% discount on all our books and greetings cards. Click here to learn more
• Stop by Much Ado Books to browse our selection of crafty fundraising initiatives. These range from our own sought-after handmade badges as well as a range items of all shapes and sizes donated from a wide range of individuals, some who prefer to remain anonymous and some from well-known personalities. One such gift was from the family of Denis Healey who gave us boxes of his classical CDs to sell!
• Share your ideas. If you work in, or know ways to develop a love of reading (we define the remit pretty broadly) or have ideas for our fundraising, please do get in touch.
