Prospero’s Project
Supporting a love of books and reading
We aim to put books into people’s hands and to foster a love of reading
Whether you are part of a charity or an informal community group, learn more about how we can work together.
Prospero’s Project is the name of our social enterprise, which is a part of our award-winning bookshop, Much Ado Books.
The project began as a way to support charities and organisations that promote a love of books and reading. Over the years we have evolved and grown.
Since 2007 Prospero’s Project has donated more than £18,000 and thousands of books to a wide range of beneficiaries including local schools, foodbanks, overseas orphanages, care homes, community centres, charities supporting migrants, local libraries, and children’s charities. You can read more about these past projects here.
At Christmas, Prospero’s Project raises money by selling our own handmade Christmas stockings.
We (Much Ado owners Cate Olson and Nash Robbins) fashion the stockings from old wool blankets, most of which have been donated by generous supporters.
Each stocking is decorated individually, with designs inspired by books and by the season. Many of them are felt decoupage scenes, and you’ll also find stockings featuring vintage lace, antique buttons and other notions.
